Yoga Tips & Product Care

Yoga Tips to Stop Slipping on Your Yoga Mat

  • Wash your hands with soap & water before using your yoga mat. This will reduce the natural oils in your hands that cause slipping.

  • Do not use creams or oils on your hands or feet before your yoga practice to keep your mat clean.

  • To keep your yoga mat clean, we recommend a mat cleaner such as our Aurorae Organic Yoga Mat Cleaner. Spray it directly onto your yoga mat and wipe it dry with a towel. Your yoga mat must be dry before using it again.

  • Keep a microfiber towel next to your yoga mat to wipe away any perspiration or clean your mat.

  • If necessary use an Aurorae Slip Free Yoga Rosin Bag to absorb perspiration, natural oils or built-in resins from the mat that could cause slipping. Our Slip-Free Rosin Bag increases gripping power on your yoga mat.

Yoga Tips for Beginners

What to wear to yoga class

If you are going to practice yoga, wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move around in. Some people prefer loose fitting clothing, but we personally prefer a slightly more snug look so that when we’re in downward dog, or other inversions, our shirts are not falling down. Depending on the temperature of the space you are practicing, we suggest dressing in comfortable layers.

What to bring to yoga class

Many yoga studios will loan you a yoga mat during class. We suggest, for sanitary reasons, to bring your own yoga mat. In addition to your yoga mat, bring a reusable water bottle and a towel. Hopefully, your yoga studio will provide other yoga props such as yoga blocks, blankets, and yoga straps, but consider bringing your own yoga strap just in case.

What to expect at your first yoga class

Every yoga class is different. You should let your yoga teacher know that you are a beginner, so he or she can make sure you are comfortable and cared for throughout the practice. One of the most amazing things about practicing yoga is that there is no judgement from anyone - not for yours. No matter your experience, each yoga practice is your own yoga practice. The yoga teacher will guide you through your practice each time and she or he will help you with alignment of poses so you do not injure yourself. The beauty of yoga is within you.

How to prepare for your yoga class

Avoid eating for at least two hours prior to class so you will not have an upset stomach. Make sure to wear your comfortable clothing and you can mentally tune in before class. We recommend you leave your cell phone behind in another room or on silent in order to enter the space with a clear and quiet mind.
